It was CH & FC who were going all out from the kick-off whistle dominating almost 60% of possession in the first quarter. Unfortunately, they failed to convert possession to points.

CR’s lacklustre defence in the first few minutes didn’t reflect on CH & FC’s scorecard early in the first few minutes but later crumbled when it came to the latter part of the 1st half.

CR’s national sevens combo Kevin Dixon and Reeza Raffaideen combined to draw first blood with Raffaideen covering a good 25 meters on his final sprint to touch down.

Samuel Maduwantha’s 28th-minute penalty bolstered the winning spirit in the CH & FC lads and there was no halt to the dominance.

From being pointless in the first 20, CH & FC scored 16 points in the next with Samuel Maduwantha kicking things off with a three-pointer.

Anuradha Herath who made the breakthrough from his own 50 later found Niwanka Prasad to score the first.

The continuous infringements from the Reds’ saw CH’s Hirantha Perera joining the forwards to score the second. Niwanka Prasad’s break to the try line saw a halt with credit to some good defensive work early on but CR later succumbed to Perera’s entourage.

With both tries going unconverted, Samuel Maduwantha later reconciled with a near 50meter penalty just before half time.

Half Time – CH & FC 16 – CR & FC 5

The second half was no different to the first with the crumbling defence of CR & FC. Early in the 2nd half, Tarinda Ratwatte’s horrendous pass made it to the hands of Nishon Perera who crossed the white patch for the third.

The reliable Anuradha Herath brought in the bonus point try for the Maitland Place team running around the helpless CR defence.

Samuel Maduwantha who missed the 1st two conversions early in the game added the four extras for his side from the 2nd half tries. (30-5)

Maduwantha later kicked another magnificent penalty covering almost 45 meters to extend CH & FC’s lead beyond measure. (33-5)

CR & FC’s Reyhan Silva took his side away from absolute humiliation when he scored a consolation try late in the 2nd half taking three players with him to the try line.

It was a disappointing display from the CR & FC lads after their successful opening weeks of Dialog Rugby League action. The defence lines of CR looked non-existent and there was no real impact from the tight five finishing with a below-par performance.

The league’s top points’ scorer had to give away his title to his counterpart, Samuel Maduwantha who now leads the leaderboard. Ratwatte was not at his best and it was clearly reflected in the overall score.
